Blue Ridge Parkway

The 469 mile Blue Ridge Parkway offers unspoiled scenery between Front Royal, Virginia and Cherokee, North Carolina.  With State Parks, waterfalls, and popular hiking trails, the parkway provides many recreational options. Fall brings splendid color to the parkway and many enjoy the colorful views.

Completed in 1987, the parkway took 52 years to complete. To enhance your visit, pick up a directory and road map at any visitor center along the parkway, or visit their website. There are more photos and a brief history on Wikipedia.

Road sections can be closed in winter. For the latest road conditions call the 24-hour info line at 828-298-0398, or view the real time Road Closures Map.

The Asheville NC area provides great riding on the BR Parkway. Spend a day going north and back,  and another day going south and back, using Asheville as your home base. Extend your visit by riding other roads in the area. The Biltmore Estate is also nearby, if you need a break from riding. See map.
